A new Nisa convenience store has opened in Troon, giving the Ayrshire town its first store of its kind. The shop, located on Church Street, covers 3,200 square feet and is only the second in Scotland to feature the updated Nisa brand. Business owner Zaib Bal, operating under Troon Local Ltd, took over the previously empty unit.
The store stocks a wide range of everyday essentials, fresh food, and Co-op products. Among the Co-op brand lines available are fresh and chilled items, food-to-go, fresh produce, frozen goods, and the award-winning Irresistible premium range. The shop also sells American confectionery, hot food, and freshly ground takeaway coffee from Smokin’ Bean.
New store answers a local need
For years, Troon residents had to travel to nearby towns for a comparable convenience shopping experience. The opening of this Nisa store fills a gap that local shoppers had felt for some time. Zaib Bal, who owns the business, said the goal is to provide a convenient shopping destination with great value, excellent service, and a wide product range.

Fiona Shearer, regional development manager at Co-op Wholesale, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome Zaib into the Nisa group. It was brilliant to see the store officially open its doors to the local community – one we’re sure it will quickly become the beating heart of.”
Bal added that he is especially excited to bring the quality and choice of the Co-op own-brand range to the community. He said he looks forward to welcoming shoppers through the doors.
The store’s arrival is part of a broader effort by Co-op Wholesale to expand the Nisa symbol group in Scotland. The new-look proposition includes updated branding and a focus on fresh and local products. For a town like Troon, which sits on the Ayrshire coast, having a modern convenience store within walking distance could change daily routines for many residents. It’s the kind of amenity that smaller towns often lose as retail shifts online, so a new physical store opening is a notable exception.

Charity donation supports local youth football
A key feature of Nisa stores is the Making A Difference Locally (MADL) charity initiative run by Co-op Wholesale. Through the scheme, the new Troon store has donated £500 to Troon FC 2019s, a local football team that trains young players in skills needed to be successful on the pitch.
Kate Carroll, social value lead at Co-op Wholesale, said: “Troon Nisa chose to support Troon FC 2019s because they know how important its work is in this community. Through MADL, we’re proud to help independent retailers fund the causes that matter most to them and their customers, and we’re delighted these funds will support this local young people’s football club.”
Bal and his staff officially opened the store this week, with Abdullah Bhatti among the team members present. The new Nisa Troon marks a fresh start for the empty unit on Church Street, bringing life and much-needed amenities back to the area. For local shoppers, it means a shorter trip for everyday essentials and a hot coffee from Smokin’ Bean.
